<p>I got my financial aid package and I was awarded about $9000, and my EFC was about $6000. I just found out that I got a local scholarship that was merit based for $6000. Can I use my financial aid and my local scholarship/ Someone told me that UNC wouldn't let you, but I thought that was incorrect.</p>

<p>once UNC sees that you have outside scholarships then they will reduce the amount of need based money they were going to give you. It sucks but thats how they do it. If you're lucky, that local scholarship will be written to you so you can deposit it and then write a personal check to UNC and they will never find out.</p>
