I received a letter from Elon today stating that my acceptance to the university will be decided after they review my spring semester college grades. Now, I haven’t auditioned for the MT program yet. (I am going March 14) Can someone please help me to figure out what this means? I am confused. Will my admission status change after my audition? How much academics is figured into the BFA class? Will I hear from the theatre department first or what should I do now? Also, if I am not going to get an admission decision until like May, do they really expect me to blow off any other schools I may or may not get into?

Your academic acceptance is separate from your acceptance into the MT program - you got a note from the academic side of things. Hope you do well with your grades this semester!

I thought Elon made admissions decisions on March 15...so haven't been checking the Check Status button! Also, I did not realize that an acceptance letter from the school would come separately than the one from the MT dept.

I can't even find a "check your status" page for Elon...is there one? The OP talked about her "college" grades so maybe it's different for transfer students? I also thought notices were going out around 3/15 and didn't know about separate admission notices for MT applicants

Sounds like the process is different for transfers which I think LizMT is. For incoming freshmen, there are three admission dates: early December for ED, December 19th for EA, and March 15th for RD. You can check your status online using the ONtrack link on Elon's homepage. You will need your username and password which came in one of the mailings you have received (don't remember which one). That link will ONLY tell you about your academic admission status. The MT admission is separate. If like the last couple of years, MT admission decisions were made after all fall auditions were completed. A few students were then accepted for MT (always contingent on separate academic acceptance), a few are deferred until spring auditions have been completed, and many receive rejection letters. Next, after all spring auditions are completed, this year I think the last date is March 14th, MT admission decisions will be made from all who auditioned in February and March, plus those few who were deferred in the fall. Last year, Cathy McNeela, head of MT, made personal phone calls to those accepted within a few days of the last audition date. They also received letters maybe a week later (can't remember exactly how long, sorry) and rejection letters also went out around that time. A few (maybe 3???) were waitlisted at that time. I am pretty sure no one got off the waitlist last year because Elon's yield was very high. There were 28 students who started in this year's MT freshman class.

LizMT & MomOfAPrincess - although I am not familiar if there are special circumstances for transfer students, I do know that the academic admission and the MT admission processes at Elon are completely separate from one another as my D just went through her own application process there this past fall. We know of people, who auditioned for MT, and were rejected academically recently.

Elon has gotten quite more competitive as interest in the university has increased substantially over the past few years.

You are able to check your admission status online via Elon's OnTrack system (primarily shows if documents are missing etc.). Once you submit your application, you receive a confirmation email with a user name and password.

MomOfAPrincess - you are correct that academic admission for incoming freshmen will be posted March 15.

Good luck and we will keep fingers and toes crossed here :)!

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. If I had looked at my filing system instead of poking around the website for a check status button, I would have known that huh?? :) What I didn't know is 3/15 it will only show academic status not MT admission. THANK YOU SO MUCH for pointing that out - I would have seen the admittance there and been having a heart attack - now I know to not get too excited just yet. Thanks again

Sounds like academic admission for transfer students is definitely different than for incoming freshmen.

MomOfAPrincess - I feel fairly confident that you will hear something one way or the other from Elon's MT dept. before the 3/15 academic notification date. I believe that if a student is accepted into MT, that letter says that it is pending academic admission to the university. It was very clear, so don't worry!

Regular admission decisions were posted on March 15, however there were people still receiving phone calls of acceptance as late as March 19th.

Some received letters saying they were waitlisted, but as discussed on a previous post, people rarely get off the Elon waitlist, or so I've heard.

Does anyone know if acceptance phone calls are still being made, or how many total spots there are in this year's MT class?

I'm not sure how many have been accepted this year...on facebook there are 23 people who have been accepted but I'm sure that there are more who are not on facebook. I'm actually suprized that they accepted so many this year because the freshmen last this year is so large...but I guess they are assuming that not everyone will accept.
