Perhaps you might be able to help in this matter but I am rather confused at the moment. I called William & Mary today to follow up on the mid-term grade report to see if it was sent by my current school and was told that they had received it but was not totally sure since the admissions committee was meeting at that very moment. Then she corrected herself saying "they have reached a decision on your application." That sort of worried me since it seemed like they didn't even look at the midterm grades yet. What should I make of this? Nothing? Should I be worried? It is my top choice for transfer...

Or it could mean that they didn't even need to see your midterm grades to be sure that you should be admitted.

Stay positive!

Yes, I should stay positive. It is an anxious time and I know I am not the only one who is nervous!

I suppose I was a bit put off by her tone when she corrected herself and said a decision has been made. My gut feeling was a negative one, but who knows, anything can happen in admissions.

Does anyone else have any thoughts? I read on another thread that midterm reports are essentially useless, as the the committee has already made their mind up by then and are only used to see if a student is failing? For the record, I had 2 As and 3 Bs on my midterm report. Does anyone have any insight into what the committees do with a midterm report?

William and Mary probably just makes sure to see if the student is maintaining his academic abilities by taking a look at the midterm grades. Mine were 3 A's 2 B's and I was freaking out.

Okay, I have a little more news:

I just received an e-mail from W&M and it said, "Transfer Committee making final decisions on applicants: March 31 through April 15
Decisions mailed by: April 15"

As I mentioned earlier, I was told yesterday (March 31) that the admissions committee had already made a decision on my application. I also heard that they will be mailing transfer decisions as early as this week. I guess this means they did not have as many transfer applicants this year as previous years?

Is it just me, or the way admissions committees work is they narrow down the applicants and then make a decision through the dates they mentioned. If they made a decision on the first day of reviewing transfers, is that a bad sign?

To of7271,

I have just received the e-mail about the Mid-Term Transcript. It was probably a mass e-mail because I had definately sent my transcript and even called them to ask if they received it.
I can't believe they told you that they've made a decision on your application right then and there on the phone, just a little intimidating.
Also, on the part of the admissions committees, it would make sense that they narrow down the applicatns and then make their decisions but I could be wrong. I hope that they do not have many applicants this year. Isn't transfer students completely dependent on how many freshmen applicants actually accept the invitation and the retention rate of other students in the college? If so, I've heard that William and Mary had a large Waitlist this year for undergraduate admissions, if that correlates at all. ^-^
And can you verify where you've heard that they will be mailing transfer decisions as early as this week? Was it the admission officers on the phone that you've talked to? I really hope they mail them this week, I've been checking this everyday to see if there was any news.

Yes, it was a mass e-mail because I sent my midterm grades last week. That is why I called yesterday to follow up to see if they recieved the midterm grades by fax and it was a bit intimidating to have her tell me over the phone that a decision had been reached on my application already. At the time, I sort of gulped and wanted to ask if I got accepted/rejected but of course that was not appropriate so I thanked her for her help.

As for the transfer decisions this week, I heard it from an admissions officer that they will be sending them this week up and all transfer applicants should hear a decision by April 15. It came across over the phone that they had reached many deicisons this week, meaning they did not have as many transfer applicants apply this year. That was my impression.

I am rather nervous but I wish you luck Mbiology08!

Best of luck to both Mbiology08 and of7271, I too applied to William and Mary for transfer and would be delighted if I was offered admission. I didn't get any e-mail about midterm grades, but I mailed mine the day it was due, they probably got it a day late. Hopefully everything went fine, I'll probably give them a call tomorrow morning to double check.
