confused

on the texas a&m ais system it shows you your majors and what not
except now my second choice major is not listed anymore

im still on step 3 which means they are reviewing my credentials

so i clicked on the change major button and it says that
my second choice major is no longer available, all the space is filled up
and my first choice major is on that list as well

i think basically im not going to get in since they havent accepted me and those majors are full
i was wondering if i could change my major to a less competitive one
like general studies and get accepted that way
or is it too late

What major did you choose? I know for me I wanted mehcanical, but it was all full. I got accepted into the Engineering College, but mechancial was full. I choose civil and plan on transfering after a year or so. Ya, you can change your major. It's not set in stone. They ask you to confirm your major anyway later down the road.

DP

woa, major is already full? holy crap. that is fast. what other engineerig major is full beside Mechanical??

i choose business as my first choice

these are all the other ones that are full

Aerospace Engineering (Lower), Agribusiness (Lower), Biomedical Engineering (Lower), Business Administration, Chemical Engineering (Lower), Civil Engineering, Computer Engr-CPSC (Lower), Computer Engr-ECEN (Lower), Computer Science (Lower), Electrical Engineering (Lower), Engineering Technology (Lower), Environmental Design (Lower), Industrial Distribution, Industrial Engineering (Lower), Landscape Architecture (Lower), Mechanical Engineering (Lower), Nuclear Engineering (Lower), Ocean Engineering (Lower), Petroleum Engineering (Lower), Radiological Health Eng(Lower)

im still on step three, and my biomedical engineer still is there?!

ENGE Status of Space Available

Biomedical is full.

That link shows all the majors in engineering that are full and open. If you're major is full, choose another major that has the same letter next to it (A, B or C). The first engineering courses are the same for every major in a letter catagory. So for me, I choose Civil because it was on the A track like mechanical.

DP

Dang, you serious? Thats really disapointing. I applied for mechanical and aerospace. Both are full lol... Could it be that there was a large volume of freshman (20,000+)?

Im going to contact the admissions office first.

26,007 applicants for class of 2013

It's not really a big deal. You will be admitted into the College of Engineering and can trasnfer after a year. It's the spots for freshmen that are all taken. Best of luck ampzor!

DP

So wait. I applied under Chemical Engineering, but my AIS page now says that my major is general engineering and gives me an option to change my major. Does that mean that I got screwed out of my intended major?

That means your major was full, yes. However, you can still be accepted into the College of Engineering and then transfer.

DP

omg...that really sucks that most of the major is full. But there will be spots re-open later right? not eveyone that got accepted will attend? That is why they have reviews of application around May?

I don't really know. That's the slots that are open for freshmen coming from high school, so it might be different for transfer students.

DP

Yes chaos is right. I asked an admissions advisor and he told me its only for freshman.

so let me get this straight...u mean that the spot for freshman is full and not transfer student? Which mean transfer students still that competitive standing? OR the spot that will free-up later are spots from freshman?

Yes its ONLY for freshman. Someone mentioned before that they put you in general engineering until you complete the CBK coursework (maths, english, science, ect.) then they will place you in the major you applied for. Sounds about right but Im not sure about that, an advisor told me not to worry so Im not going to.

Here is a lot of good info (under category 1). Admission Guidelines

As someone has already said, don't worry too much about what major you are applying for. Just make sure that whatever major you wish to have is in the same Track as the major you are changing to for application purposes. Your first year in engineering is all general classes, and as long as you stay within the group of majors in your track (A, B, or C), you'll be fine. If not you'll have to retake ENGR 111 & 112, as they differ between the three Tracks... which will further delay your entry into upper level.
