I’m filling out the CalState application right now, and I’m trying to figure out the A-G requirements. Does anyone know if AP Art History fulfills the one year art requirement? I’m guessing and hoping that it’s a visual art…
Yes, it does.
If you attend a CA HS, you can look up your HS’s a-g courses here. They are all categorized for you.
use the link @gumbymom provides above. Not all classes are equivalent from one HS to the next. That link is about the classes for YOUR school.
If I’m not at a California high school, does it still count?
Yes, it will count.
Here are the ways to fulfill the requirement:
F) Visual and performing arts
UC-approved high school courses:
One yearlong course of visual and performing arts chosen from the following disciplines: dance, drama/theater, music, interdisciplinary arts or visual art — or two one-semester courses from the same discipline is also acceptable.
AP or IB Examination:
Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP History of Art, Studio Art or Music Theory Exam;
score of 5, 6 or 7 on any one IB HL exam in Dance, Film, Music, Theatre Arts or Visual Arts
College courses:
Grade of C or better in any transferable course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units that clearly falls within one of four visual/performing arts disciplines: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art
Thank you very much! I suspected that it would count but I just wanted to check. I contacted the CalStateApply liaison, and they linked an A-G chart but even their own A-G chart didn’t go into as much detail as your response did!
