Is it A or C, in your opinion?

If you choose one, can you please explain why is the other wrong, and what is the trick in this question?
Thanks in advance!

I say A because it isn’t incomplete…it is kind of the character’s opinion, so he is being narrow-minded.

I say A too, but it’s C :frowning:

:-w hmmm that’s weird. Where is this from?

It’s a CB releasted QAS exam, and yes, it is “incomplete”–Earl gives some reasons in the quote, then the narrator (Virgil) says “there were other reasons,” meaning that the reasons Earl gave weren’t all the reasons–in other words, his explanation was “incomplete.”

(And no, the Q isn’t at all “weird,” and it’s not a “trick question.” It’s perfectly verifiable and unambiguous.)

Ohhhh I see. I just took into account earl’s dialog. I didn’t even read past that. My bad.

Glad I could help!

@marvin100 can’t we say that “less sentimental” shows us Earl has a narrow perspective? and yes, it’s a released Q&A test

As always look for the BEST answer as in NOT being subject to personal interpretation. Ask yourself … why could ore would C be … wrong? It is clearly an answer that works in all cases. On the other hand, the other choices are debatable and questionable. You have to “stretch” the text to support the other choices.

An easy C on that one as the test writers added a huge “look here” when they included the word OTHER and suggested an answer that is INCOMPLETE.

A little thought usually helps. Read around the lines mentioned in the question and look for words such as “other,” as xiggi pointed out. Also, Virgil does not say or imply that Earl is narrow-minded. C must be the correct option.

It seems I “over-analyzed” the question. Thank you all so much for your help. I know understand how to think the right way!

We can support C 100% from the text, but narrow-minded is a choice I overanalyzed that has no direct support in the passage. (y)

This is an example of how personal filters affect critical reading scores. People see the word ‘sentimental’ and immediately, a judgment is formed; a button is pushed for them.

whoa!lol that was one interesting question.
