***CONFUSING ENGLISH QUESTIONS***

Hey guys, these are the questions I got wrong on my ACT English practice test. Don’t know how to correct them for future questions of their type.

  1. The process of creating ceramics begins in a studio. My friend Ellen is typical of many more potters in that some pieces she shapes on a spinning potter's wheel and others he builds on a work table from coils or slabs of clay.

F. NO CHANGE
G. of many
H. mostly of
J. for most

  • I don’t even get what kind of question this is.

She then carries the assortment outside to the wood-fired kiln, it is a brick structure designed to bake pottery to a hardness and transform glazes to glorious colors that drying alone won’t achieve.
F. NO CHANGE
G.the brick structure is
H. A brick structure
J. brick.

  • the answer is H...but wouldn't that make the sentence a complete sentence, thus making a comma between two complete sentences? I said J.

The first one-- G is correct because it is a better use of language. Here’s a similar sentence.
My friend Sam is the last of many sitar players in his family.
The 2nd one – H is a complete sentence. The main body of the sentence is at the start, and the rest of the sentence is a descriptive dependent clause. Here’s a similar sentence.
Her best friend’s cat is a Maine Coon, a breed known for its long fur and even temperament.
Hope that helps!

@midtntutor that did help thanks!
