I got invited to their chancellor's reception in Concord. Did anyone else get this and does anyone know what it means? It's on March 18th which is a weird date because Santa Cruz starts notifying people of acceptances/rejections on the 15th, so I'm thinking this might be their version of a likely letter but I really don't know. Any thoughts? Thanks!

oh and I'm ELC so I'm pretty much in there anyway but I'm still confused.

you are correct, it is an early acknowledgement/invitation. But, since you are ELC, it's automatic admission. You might even be in consideration for a Chancellor's scholarship.

peindre, bluebayou is a parent. ;) (One of us who know a lot about the UC system.)

btw, what other UC's did you apply to?

etti,
ELC = Eligibility in the Local Context. (Stupid name) It means top 4% of your high school class, & includes the high schools in CA that participate in that selection process. A high school can choose not to; and also a high school not yet accredited is ineligible to participate in ELC.

At invitation by U.C., schools send lists of their top ~12.5% of seniors. U.C. then applies its own weighting based on a-g U.C. courses which each of those students has completed in sophomore & junior year, & decides who among those candidates is truly top 4% for those 2 yrs of work. The selection honors ties for the full 4%, no matter how many ties emerge.

(By weighting I mean of course weighting for Honors & AP's in the a-g category. There is a maximum on that for non-ELC students, but no maximum weighting for ELC students.)

I'm in the top 4% of my class which means that I'm guaranteed admittance at at least one UC campus, "though not necessarily your first choice". I applied to Santa Cruz and Berkeley because those are the only UCs I like. So I'm guaranteed SC I think, Berkeley's a flip of a coin so I have no idea about that one.

Not necesarily. The past two years, the "guarantee schools" were Riverside, SB and Merced. But, Irvine and SC accept 99.9% of elc apps under their holistic review, so its extremely likely you are in.

Irvine is guaranteed as long as you didn't pick an impacted major.
But heck, if you're ELC and go to a respectable school, all the UC's are close to being guaranteed.

Yeah my school is a "California Distinguished School" or some BS like that (actually it is a really good school) so I think that aspect is covered.

Thanks you guys. I tried to register for it today because they were all like REGISTER ASAP OMGZZZZ SPACE IS LIMITED!!!!1!!!!one1!! and then the site said " registration form will be up soon". As my dad said, "Gotta love the UC system" :-D

oh yeah and do they even have Chancellor's scholarships at SC? I looked on their website and only found Regents. Berkeley has a Chancellor's scholarship though.

They should all have a Chancellor's Scholarship. Actually, Berkeley's the only one that doesn't really have it - they just tacked on the name to the Regents' one so officially there is a Chancellor's Scholarship, but it's rather cheap of them to stick the two together as a $1000 x 4 year scholarship when I could be picking up several times that at any of the other UCs.

I know that this does not have anything to do with UC Santa Cruz, but does anyone know an approximate date of when each UC gives notification of admission?
