Confusion about athletics and committing to a team

Fall 2011, I was offered a spot on a sports team of a Div I school. I was told that if I wanted to join the team for sure, I had to do the Early Decision application. I told him I would not do that, and applied to the school through the Regular Decision application and did not list myself as an athlete.

A few weeks ago, I was accepted into the university. In the acceptance package, it noted that all my tuition/housing deposit fees were waived. There was nothing in the acceptance package about athletics.

About two weeks later, the coach emailed me (and spelled my name wrong...) and asked if I was still interested in joining the team.

How does this athletic business work? Did I get accepted to the school on the condition that I join the team? Aren't there other things involved, such as a contract or letter of intent? I did not receive anything during the Regular Decision process from the coach.

Also, I called the admissions office but they said they’d call me back and they still haven’t.

You need to contact the Coach! D was being recruited for DII swimming, everything happened through the coach. FA wouldnt send out anything until offer was made by the coach.

Did your daughter’s acceptance package have any mention of athletics in it?

No but only because she got $700 more by accepting the FA offer since we are low income. But my daughters swim coach here also has a senior daughter who was recruited and signed at a D1 school and her FA didn’t have the swimming scholarship in it either…and they don’t qualify for FA.

But both she and my D are always in contact with the coach because once the coach makes an offer it goes to FA and is adjusted (once you sign).

Have you actually received a formal $ offer? Why haven’t you contacted the coach? You said you received an email…you need to call or reply via email at least.
