Columbia says they take both the October ACT and SAT for ED. So if I took the ACT on Saturday, would I need to send it straight to them? or can I just send it to them after I get the scores myself? (the scores come on November 8 which is after the ED deadline)

Sorry if this answer is kind of obvious. It's just that I'm a little confused on the reporting system. Thanks everyone!

Straight to them - it won’t make a difference regardless since they weigh each score individually on each section; besides, you have to send it anyway, what difference would you seeing it make?

But I also just realized that Columbia asks for only the highest composite ACT score.

“Students may submit only their highest ACT composite score officially and self-report other ACT scores by adding them to the Additional Information section of the application. While the College Board sends a cumulative record of all testing for one fee, the ACT requires separate fees for each test date; we do not want ACT takers to incur greater costs, so applicants may officially report only their highest ACT Composite (with subscores) and self-report all other ACT scores.” (from Columbia website)

So do I just wait until after Nov. 1? I need to see the Oct. score first before I send in the highest…

When I sent in my Columbia SAT scores, I unchecked a box for one of the scores because I was going through a family crisis at the time I took them so the scores were low. I know that Columbia requires all scores, so should I send in this low SAT by itself? Or will it look weird or suspicious to send this score in by itself? What should I do? :(

@goingdowwwn: The question really should be - CAN you submit an application for Early Decision AFTER the deadline?

It might reflect negatively back on you. I suggest that you report them all regardless - we don’t know our scores yet, so how can we determine our highest yet? Plus, it might show that you’re really interested in the school that you’re investing it so much. Besides, what schools did you list for immediate report, one of them should’ve been Columbia, right? You get four school’s to report to immediately for free.

I don’t think colleges hold you to deadlines of scores, especially if you’ve reported afterwards. Regardless, if you don’t want to waste money sending your score report to them, just note it on your application, send the scores immediately after receiving them. I recommend contacting somebody from the school on this issue above all, however.

@nirvana865: Send in the score by itself. It won’t look suspicious, in fact, I think it looks honest. You shouldn’t withhold your report, since they judge you based on circumstance and highest score received - if really worried, contact admissions and explain why you sent the score in separately, including your family circumstances. However - if you took the SAT after that date; that score should’ve been included when you reported those scores to Columbia, so you might not have to worry about it. If anything, it’ll look like you improved and studied to get better.
