Confusion over CSS and IDOC

I really don't understand how college expect people to do all this financial aid stuff! But, anyways, I have two questions:

What does it mean when it ask for tax forms to be signed? Do I just have my parent sign in the margins? Any particular spot?

Also, when the IDOC and CSS profile refer to a "parent," does that mean only my custodial parent? Or both? I am wondering because my noncustodial does not file any taxes and I don't want to make any confusion over who is who.

Thanks!

“Signed” tax forms means the tax returns which your parents file with the IRS. They will have signed those when they filed them.

If CSS/IDOC is asking for tax returns from 2008, your parents should have those on file somewhere – all you need to do is get a copy. If they want 2009 returns, very probably those are not available yet, because most people do not get their tax documents until late January. For PROFILE, you can use estimated numbers, and then correct them when the taxes are done. For IDOC, check the due date. Alot of people like to wait for April 15 to do their taxes, but ask your parents to get them done as quickly as possible this year. Once the forms are signed (meaning done and ready to file), you just need a copy.
