The essay prompt sounds fairly generic (talk about yourself! Why are you special?) but I'm not exactly sure how to tackle it. Do they really want a descriptive laundry list of all the stuff I do/aspire to be/plan to do? Or would it be acceptable to write an essay about one particular event or memory and use that to demonstrate something about my personality/character?
Thanks!

I believe either would be acceptable. I really don't think they look too hard at the essay, just the fact that you did one. As long as your grades are good and of course you make the minimum on your SAT, you are good to go. Of course your counselor needs to do his/her job with paperwork and recommendation. The only ones I know who did not make it from my S's school did not have the GPA.

Thanks for the information!

great question, helpful answer. thanks

I haven't looked at the prompt this year, but last year my son looked for an angle that he could address in an interesting way, so as to avoid the laundry list. He wrote about his experience with being a leader and concensus builder in groups, without holding official leadership positions. I think he briefly tied that in to future plans, etc.
