confusion over the interdiscplinary program ?

hey, I was wondering if UPenn's interdisciplinary program means I can just apply for only the College of Arts and Sciences and then still take classes at Wharton? Isn't that what dual degree is? Or do I have to enroll in a "coordinated" program like the Huntsman and the Lauder programs?

to clarify: I am applying to College of Arts and Sciences and only the College of Arts and Sciences.
However, I want to get an MBA at Wharton.
Can I still take classes from Wharton?
Do I have to enroll in the Huntsman/Lauder programs?

Interdisciplinary means you can take classes from any school even if you are enrolled in lets say, CAS. But even if you were enrolled at SEAS, you can take courses from Wharton, CAS, or Nursing school. This interdisciplinary thing is sort of optional, you can take courses in CAS for all four years if you wanted to.

But the coordinated dual degree, you have to take required courses from both school in order to get two degrees. Usually this is more rigorous.

So in conclusion, you don’t have to enroll in Huntsman/Lauder programs. You can still take classes at Wharton even if you are enrolled in CAS.

thank you!!! your answer was perfect.
also-- are all dual degrees coordinated or is there an uncoordinated program where I can just take the classes I want and still get two degrees?

Usually doing a coordinated dual degree is more rigorous than doing a single degree at one school. But doing an UNCOORDINATED dual degree program (getting a degree from each school by completing each school’s requirements) is much more difficult than a COORDINATED dual degree program (which you have to apply for, whereas you can just do the uncoordinated dual degree).

There really is no formally uncoordinated dual degree program. You just have to complete each “school”'s requirements.

So lets say you want a biology degree from CAS and an economics degree from Wharton, so you have to complete the course requirements from each school to get those two degrees.

hi free2rhyme, thanks for the info and im just wondering,
when we applied for a specific undergrad school we could only choose one… say if i get into UPenn CAS (fingers crossed), how and when should I should my interest in an uncoordinated dual degree?

Many thanks =)
