Confusion regarding score-report.....Please help!

What happens if I decide not to self-report any SAT test score in the commonapp? Are there any disadvantages? I have taken the SAT twice and my score for the first sitting wasn't good. My overall score as well as the score for each of the 3 sections improved the second time around. So I've decided neither to send the first score to colleges nor self-report it in the commonapp. Is that a bad idea?

In my opinion, it’s only a bad idea if a school you are applying to requires that all scores be submitted. Self-reporting test scores on the Common App is completely voluntary.

Well, the schools I am applying to have it stated in their SAT score policy that they “strongly encourage” applicants to send their scores each time they take the test. However, they haven’t indicated anywhere that it is a MUST to have all scores submitted. So I guess I shouldn’t have a headache, right?

There are some schools, like Yale and Stanford that really do ask for all scores. If that’s not the case for you, you are fine. If you are violating the college’s policy a message telling you that will pop up from College Board when you attempt to send select scores.

Self reporting score is really optional. It would not hurt your chance if you don’t. It may help if you want to provide scores that you are not going to submit officially otherwise. You just need to follow the school’s requirement on score submission. Some schools would even block off the self reporting section on the pdf as they don’t want to be interfered by non-required information.
