Congrats to OSU honors & scholars

Just received my invite; needless to say, I’m REALLY relieved!

Congratulations!!

Congratulations! Your postings and college visit report has been a great source of OSU information.

Congrats! I hope to see you there soon. The reports have been very insightful! :-D

Actually, sorry to everyone about the college visit report! I tried a couple of times to do a combined report on the several OSU tours I've been on, but I can't add on to the honors one and the system won't let me make multiple reports. Thanks to everyone, though.

Also, Troy Smith got the Heisman. WOOHOO.

i just got my intial acceptance letter ot the university

how much longer does the honors invite take , or did it come with it

and scholars is a sepreate app right

Honors letters come about 10 days later. Student ambassadors are also calling with the news around the same time. I don't think Scholars is a separate app. I think it happens via letter based upon the initial app - the same way as Honors.

Admission to the Scholars Program is through a separate application. If your class rank and test scores(taken from your original application) fall within the Scholars Program requirements, the admissions department will notify you, by phone and/or mail. Then you need to complete the Scholars Program Application(including an addtional essay), which is due by February 1.

I got an invite to apply for Scholars. The program seems nice but I'm more interested in the Honors College.
Am I out of consideration for Honors?

youarenumber6: I think that if you've been admitted to the honors program, you would have been notified of that by now--by phone and/or by mail. From what I understand, qualifying for the honors program is numbers-driven--pretty cut-and-dried. According to the Honors and Scholars section of the OSU website, the qualifications for the honors program are: "If you have a 29 ACT composite or a 1300 SAT critical reading and math combined score AND rank in the top 10% you will be invited to participate in the Honors Program"

mom: you think correctly.

do they let u know if u dont get invited to honors or r u just left hanging

A problem with Scholars (at least for my son) is that they do not render a decision on whether you have been accepted to that specific Scholars program until late March, early April...so that makes it difficult to make a decision if you want to matriculate based on getting into that program.

AFalcon10 - I think they leave you hanging. A case where no news is not good news.

Mom - guess I was wrong about Scholars. My son was invited for Honors. I guessed about Scholars. With guesses like that I should stay away from the lottery.

:o)

PennilessParent: No worries--actually, when I think about it, I don't know why they don't automatically invite students into the Scholars Program upon the original application, like Honors (and then have the student choose which particular Scholars program to join). Also, congrats on your son's being invited into the Honors program.:)
