Congratulations to future Waggies!

I just want to extend my congratulations to all of you who just got thru a tough year of auditions, senior year, the waiting and the final decisions!!! Very stressful I know for you and your parents. Great job!!!

My D is finishing up her 2nd year at Wagner and loves it! (still). She is managing a double major- not easy or encouraged in the theatre dept- but doable if you’re willing to make it a goal, put the time and research in- and manage it yourself. She also takes a summer class at local colleges for her core curriculum to make room during the year for major requirements. Last year was math, this year will be computer science. She went in with 5 years of a foreign language so she didn’t have to fulfill those requirements and that made room for major requirements as well. That’s a whole semester of extra courses to pack in second major requirements. Definite thinking ahead is required.

Wagner students are more than willing to share their ins and outs of working the system so don’t be shy. Find out who is doing what and ask away. She had 2 upperclassman who helped her get started and develop a plan for her Theatre and speech and psychology double major. That was her goal from day 1. But you will find you’re advisors will say wait till your junior year. But by then it’s too late to get in the things you need. So be pro active. But initially Bypass your advisors and ask the upperclassmen for their experiences first before you approach it with your theatre advisors. They will have valuable info that will help ease the problems with the theatre dept. Very important to do if thinking of this double major path. That was one of the reasons my D chose to go to Wagner. Most colleges or conservatories for theatre majors don’t allow for double majoring.

Also, ask about the teachers. Some are harder than others. And don’t be fooled by thinking the theatre classes are easy. Some are harder than the worst math or history class you’ve ever had.

I hope you use this advice as a learning tool. It will come in handy!

Good luck and congratulations again to you all!! Hope you are very happy at Wagner. Any questions feel free to email me. I don’t check this site often. So email is the way to go.
