Cartera45 mentioned that her D has just graduated! Congratulations! Any other recent or impending college or conservatory grads?

My older kid graduates this Sunday with a Bachelor’s in Music Ed.

One down, one to go! Thanks for the good wishes to all graduates.

yaaaayyy!!!

Best wishes to this year’s Music grads!

(from a mom of music grad 2011 who is loving his musical life)

Best wishes to everyone graduating this year! May they all get into the grad school of their choice or land a great job!

Congrats to all the graduates! My D2 (the nonmusic major violist) graduates this weekend. Other than community orchestras, can anyone think of a way for her to stay active as an amateur musician without paying to participate in chamber music at a local music school? (She’s not sure where she’ll end up yet…the job search is still in process.)

Congrats to stradmom and D!
Not exactly amateur…but has she ever tried marketing herself to perform at weddings and other events? (Especially effective if she can hook up with other musicians to form a trio or quartet. ) My D has networked locally and regularly fills in as a sub for existing groups when they are short a mezzo . It takes a while to network, but if your D is good at learning rep at the last minute, it’s a nice part time option.

stradmom - the community orchestras are a great place to network for chamber groups. As they hear her play in the orchestra, people may approach her to play in a group (just happened to me last month and I am old!) or she can ask people to play in a chamber group with her. Most community groups have a range of abilities but everyone is there by choice because they love music. All the right reasons!

Congrats to the graduates!

Thanks for the good wishes and congratulations to other grads! My D is taking a gap year, deciding about grad school. She will be taking private lessons, looking for a church gig and subbing while she works. She is working with me in my business so she has a job.

Sounds like a well thought out year! Best of luck to her cartera45 and to all the talented graduates and their very supportive families.

Looks like it’s all the same familiar faces (or screen-names!), so thought you might be interested to know I’m graduating MM this year, and starting DMA at Juilliard in September. Its been a tough, but good, two years!

Congratulations fisheee! Seems like only yesterday you were struggling to find an apartment. Your daughter (?) must be almost ready for kindergarten? Soon you’ll be on here posting questions about prep programs!

congrats Fishee!! Glad you checked in!

Yay, fisheeeee!

Thanks everyone. Yep, I can now officially say that NYC Kindergarten applications are at least as stressful as music school applications!
