Congratulations Class of 2012!!

On behalf of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, I am thrilled to congratulate the admitted Vanderbilt class of 2012. Your collective achievements as academics, leaders, participators, writers, athletes, politicos, musicians, artists (and plenty of other characteristics) have made the admitted class the most talented, diverse, and competitive in Vanderbilt's history.

It is, by any measure, an historic year.

Sure, I know that CCers are interested in the numbers (applications, selectivity, test scores, diversity, rank in class etc.) which are all unprecedented. But as Admissions Counselors, we're most excited about welcoming the first class to experience The Freshman Commons.

As talented as you all are, we know you'll have choices. Please let us know if we can answer any questions over the coming weeks. We sincerely hope to see you join the historic class of 2012.

Congratulations again and Go 'Dores!
Brad

Admissions: Vanderbilt University

Hey Brad!

Unfortunately, I was waitlisted at Vandy. I will definitely be accepting a place on the list, but I was wondering if you could tell me the chances someone has of being offered a spot. Roughly how many applicants get waitlisted?

Brad, could you tell me anything about Vanderbilt offering a $5,000 for four years scholarship to National Merit Finalists who did not receive a Vanderbilt Scholarship?

Waitlisted:

If you feel that you're a definite fit at Vandy, PLEASE plead your case to the admissions office through a well though out letter (in fact, say that you love this school as much as everyone trying to preserve its current culture and know of the old "Why Vanderbilt?" essay, just write that). Also be sure to update your application with any new internships, awards, or things of that nature. Hopefully Vanderbilt will stop this whole charade of trying with all its might to become another Duke or WashU to jump in the rankings and go back to being its good old self.

On the other end of the spectrum, if you got in here but applied to schools that might cause some to look at you oddly for it not being remotely similar to Vanderbilt culture-wise, please consider your choices wisely. Nobody likes a low sophomore retention rate.

Really impressed with Vandy admissions this year. You managed to cull the best and the brightest at our school, some of whom will turn down Ivys and the like to attend Vandy. Well done!

Hey Brad,

Can you post the 2012 Admissions Statistics breakdown for each school (Peabody, A&S, Engineering, and Blair)? This will help us gain a better understanding on why the admissions rates were so low. In addition, can you post the ACTs/SATs breakdowns for each school.

Thanks for your help!
