Congratulations to all those who were accepted at Mount Holyoke and have made the decision to attend! My daughter graduated in May, 2010. She had four years of wonderful educational and internship experiences, great club and leadership opportunities, and made amazing friends. I wish you all the same!

Feel free to ask any questions, my time frame is not that far off, though ConCerndDad is a current parent and I can see is most helpful "on the boards".

My D was accepted to Mount Holyoke and as a family, we are very excited. She will attend in the fall. Can anyone tell me how is a degree from Mount Holyoke viewed by prospective graduate programs and future employers? Is the prestige of being the first of the “Seven Sisters” a thing of the past? Or is a degree from Mount Holyoke indicative of having received a great education?

Mount Holyoke is an excellent college with an outstanding reputation. My daughter’s and her friends’ experiences support this very well thought of in both academic (grad school) and “real” worlds. All of my daughter’s friends are where they wanted to be at this point…some grad school, some working, some volunteering (Teach for America, Americorps, etc.)

I’m an alumna from the 90s, and I can say that my MHC degree has served me well, both in graduate school and in my career. It’s definitely recognized as an institution that provides a fine education.

Pardon the error in my previous post…I should know better than to post with less than 4 hours sleep Corrected version (I hope):

Thanks to all who responded. I’m glad to hear that Mount Holyoke still has an excellent reputation. As I mentioned before, as a family, we love the school and it is a perfect match for my daughter in terms of her academic interest, so I really appreciate everyone’s comments.

I am a MHC alum from the class of 89, and I was horribly disappointed to read about the high number of cheating incidents on campus this semester. (Facebook story straight from MHC’s own postings) Very sad to think that students feel they need to resort to violating the very old, wonderful Honor Code. It also made me wonder if any of those students also “cheated” when they applied to the College…there are a great number of things at MHC that have changed greatly since I was there, and although I still think highly of the school, I do worry for it’s future reputation - reading about MHC students being called horrible slurs related to their social behaviors, sexual identity, etc seems to be unavoidable now. The students used to be very respected and thought of as smart, classy, honorable, etc. in South Hadley and elsewhere. I don’t like reading anything to the contrary!
