hi everyone, i have submitted my application to the congress-bundestag year abroad program and was hoping to hear from someone who had already gone through the admissions process for the program-- about when did you hear from the program regarding your application? and was there an interview or some sort of second round? thanks!!!

i had some friends that applied for this a few years ago. i know that they both had to go do an interview, though i can't remember when it was. one of my friends got in and really loved her year so good luck!

i really really really wanted to apply to this...but my mother wouldn't allow it. I am still upset about it.

My son applied and was accepted last year -- he chose to go another route, but I can at least tell you about the application process.

After they get all the applications, they pick the top kids to interview (my son was in a remote place, so it was a phone interview for him). I think they interview about twice as many kids as they end up accepting. After the interview (which was in mid to late February, if I remember correctly) he was notified in mid to early april that he was accepted.

I believe they also accept some kids as alternates -- and many of those alternates end up going since not all the kids who are accepted end up going.

Good Luck!

Does anyone know what the approximate acceptance rate is? And is it really 100% free?

my sister did this for a year about two years ago....very bad experience for her.

her host father was abusive towards the mother...the family was basically insane. my sister reported them to the CDS people. who forwarded the email to the father, causing a million more problems.

i remember us having to call everyday, making sure that she wasn't so depressed that she would think about killing herself (it happened a lot).

she was a german major and loves cities, but they put her into bumblef*** germany (wernigerode).

wouldn't recommend this for ANYONE.

there are better study abroad options, trust me.

aw. joy kill. :(

for the most part, do participants have to speak german or show an academic interest in german? i want to apply - it seems like a wonderful program. not sure of my chances, though...

I may try and use this as a gap year between H.S. and college, but who knows if I'll get accepted or not.
