Congress might have an unexpected gift this year for the U.S. Navy — five more ships.

Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Miss., chairman of the House Armed Services seapower and expeditionary forces subcommittee, said Feb. 8 that he and Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Committee, have discussed adding five ships to the seven the Navy is asking for in 2008....

'Twould seem our fine politician ... is that oxymoron? ... from the Commonwealth named for the woods of William Penn is struggling to regroup, attempting to garner some political capital at taxpayer expense?

If it's for our USN, that's encouraging news. ;)

It would be exciting, though, if they did get them.

Nah. He's still up to his old shenanigans. Didn't you hear about the flap yesterday over his demanding that the Pentagon provide the Speaker of the House, Nazi Pelosi, with a C-12 to transport her between Washington, D.C. and San Francisco. A C-12 is the military version of a Boeing 757. A round trip cost to the taxpayer is in excess of $300K.

The Pentagon offered a Gulfstream jet to the Speaker. This is the same aircraft that Dennis Hastert and Newt Gingrich used when they were in the same position. A round trip flight between DC and SF is approximately $50K with this aircraft.

The Honorable Murtha (former marine and war hero -- let's cut and run) threatened to withold Pentagon funding if they didn't cave in to his demands. The Abscam corruption scandal comes to mind. Murtha was in the midst of that scandal. He escaped prosecution by bilging his fellow lawmakers.

I say we should just put the Speaker on a commercial flight with an upgraded ticket in First Class -- save the taxpayers some money.

Why upgrade to first class?

The AF pilots who have to fly these people around have stories galore!

So many people, so few manners!

Yea, one way ducat ... to the moon, Alice!

And take Johnny M. with you, please. He is embarrassing. Special emphais on that 3rd syllable, too.

Did I ever tell you of the word "assume"?

Sorry for the digression. I'm blaming it all on GA. And PFC Gomer Murtha. I believe he and Sen. Kerry serve in the same boat.
