So on my application packet to my U.S. Congressman, I had listed that I would prefer to attend the Naval Academy over West Point, but now I am beginning to think that I may want to attend West Point over the Naval Academy. I have an interview with his board in roughly three weeks and am wondering if I should email his officer and let him know of my decision change, or if I should just inform his board during the interview? Let me know what you guys think, and much thanks for any help!

it really depends on your Congressional District office. I suggest you call the Service Academy Coordinator at the Congressional office and be honest with them. I also suggest you be ready to answer questions on why you would want to attend West Point. Have you read any books (Absolutely American, In a Time of War, Long Gray Line, etc.)? Have you met with or talked to any graduates? Do you have an understanding of which Army branch you would like to serve as an officer (Aviation, Infantry, FA, Armour, MI, etc)? Be ready to explain why and be passionate about your desire to serve. Good luck!

Are you a junior? And what is your ACT/SAT? And I have to agree with Candidate2016. Be “HONEST” and speak from your heart above all else. West Point does not take kindly of sucking up. Also, Candidate2016, have you been accepted into West Point? If so, what was your gpa, act, fitness scores, etc like in order to become accepted?

IcedZealot - I earned my appointment NOV 2011 for the USMA Class of 2016. I am in my second year at West Point (Yealing). I would not worry about what I had as far as statistics, but work hard to take ACT/SAT as many times as possible to improve scores.

I also would compare yourself to the profile of those accepted:

USMA 2016: http://www.westpoint.edu/admissions/Shared%20Documents/Profile2016.pdf

I also strongly encourage you to find your Field Force Rep in your area. If you don’t know who it is, then contact USMA Admissions and ask them.

Good luck!

Candidate2016 - Seems that I mostly need to work on my ACT. Unfortunately, I never joined Beta club, but I will attempt to win the National Merit Scholarship. And what exactly is the # to the right of the list words. Such as, Valedictorian…100, Salutatorian…46???

Oh, and what was your ACT/Sat and Gpa if you don’t mind stating them?
