When is the deadline for the summer program?

it already past(march 22nd) for my rep...call your rep or senator and ask though, it may be different. i know nominations dont have to be in yet

My child applied for the AY program (always due May 1) because he/she was not 16 until the fall of jr. yr. The congressman's office did a phone interview in the middle of May and the Office of the Clerk conducted another phone interview in early June. The child was notified via phone in mid-August. We knew that fall semester was out due to b'day so it would be spring or nothing. Paperwork came in the middle of September and it was due back sometime in NOV. If the child had not been acccepted for the AY program, he/she was going to reapply for the following spring.

FYI, my child's page year was the only year that nobody was booted from the program. The Page Program has a zero-tolerance policy as the Washington Post picks up every little indiscretion they can dig up.

what 3 weeks of the summer does the Page program run? August?

Usually there are 2 sessions of 3 weekers. One starts in the 2nd week of June the day after the Spring Semester Pages graduate, so your child may have to take finals early. The next one starts when the 1st one finishes. Usually both houses are in recess in August.

do people really get kicked out that often?

I might know Motherdear's kid since I was also in the famous class that all completed the program. MD, I pm'ed you. Unfortunately even smart teenagers who should know better do dumb things. Pages are under a magnifying glass and what would normally not make the news sometimes does simply because the idiot was a Page not just a normal teenage idiot. So yes, people get expelled so as not to bring discredit on the 200+ year-old tradition of the Page program.

what for though?

and also, should i be worrying that i still havent heard anything from the office or is it still too early for the summer to be nominated yet?

bumpppppppppp

once they call you for an interview (the cleark) how close are you

gurl3344, I was also recently interviewed by the page board and at the end of the interview, they asked me if I had any questions, and I took that opportunity and I asked them several questions. I found out that this is pretty much the end of the process. I didn't even think I was nominated by my congresswoman, but turns out I was a lot farther a long in the process than I origanily thought. It made my day :)

My manager at work did this. He was scheduled for about a year but was cut short after 9/11. He was telling me about when he was serving right after, they needed a page to take a gavel to the speaker's office and he was the only one who knew where it was. They use a new gavel for each major legislation and then they can give it to somebody as a gift. Anyway, he was carrying the gavel that sent us to war in Afghanistan...then he left, ha

I spent a summer serving as a Congressional Page, and it was definitely one of the best experiences of my life. Many kids, especially during the summer terms, have major connections. However, there are plenty of kids who get the positions without "knowing" anyone. My congressman didn't know who I was until I introduced myself to him on the floor! Recommendations, I think, are really important when it comes to being accepted as a page. As stated before, treat this application like a college app. Get recommendations from people who know and like you, make sure you list all your major achievements, and spend some time perfecting your essay. The opportunity is definitely worth the effort it took to put my application together. To those who have already applied: I didn't get a phone call telling me I was nominated; the first call I got told me that I was accepted. We had to call in to find out that I was nominated! So don't worry, because after all, it's the federal government and (as you will find out to a much greater degree if you do serve as a page) everything takes several months. Good luck to everyone!

Oh wow, I've been interested in this program for a while now, and I'm finally going to be as of age.
Just wondering...if I wanted to apply for next summer...when should I start the application process?

MM, Congrats to you! What summer did you serve?

X, Summer page applications are usually due by 1 April. AY apps by 1 May. Call your congressman's and senior senator's offices to verify.

Hi,

I was a page for the spring semester '06, and summer session I and session II, a total of 6 months. I actually just got back 2 weeks ago, and it was the most amazing experience of my life!

I didn't have any connections at all, but i got in. And no, i wasn't harvard material. It depends on how your congressman or senator decides to do the application process. In my district, it was my congressman's turn, and how he does it is through a random drawing, and guess who got lucky? Actually, i wasn't that lucky, i got picked 4th out of the drawing, but the other losers dropped out and i grabbed this amazing oppurtunity. We got to attend the State of the Union and also 5 other joint sessions including presidents/primeminister of italy, latvia, israel, liberia, and most recently iraq. You meet amazing peopel there...and u have sooooo much fun.

Anyways, i didn't find out i got confirmed until a month before my session started, so don't get fustrated if u don't find out right away. Some people knew half a year before...so it depends on your congressional office.

Good luck in yoru application process! :)

hey i got into the program, very excited how will i be affected because of the election? Congress wont be in session as long right?

Gurl3344, If you havn't already, check out this site: pagealumni.us and introduce yourself to other pages. Congrats!

I served Summer '06...it was amazing!!!!
