I live in Southern California. I've been researching for an office that sponsors a congressional page for this summer of 2011 yet quite a few neighboring districts as well as my own are unsure (yet the decisions are typically announced in March of which office will sponsor a page).
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice upon this process, how it goes, and how one can find a sponsoring office (and if they did, relatively when) Thanks!!

Are you looking for Senate or House side? Typically, offices that host pages list applications on their websites. Offices generally only sponsor their constituents, though if you have any connections with other offices those can help. I was a Senate page during an academic semester. I’d give the offices you are interested in a call. PM me if you have specific questions about the program

Selected for 2011 US Senate Summer page; anyone else going, so excited to see everyone

@2011summerpage, I’m going to be a Senate Page this summer too! Are you first or second session?! (I can’t wait, I’m so excited!)

Please, can anyone give some info on this program? First do you need to be a rising Junior or rising Senior in HS? Is it the same grade requirements for Senate and House page? I understand that only 30 Senators can sponsor a page each summer. Do Senators or Representatives ever select pages from outside their home state?

There must be hundreds of applicants for every position. For those selected, what aspect of your application do you believe made you stand out? What did you write about in your cover letter?

parental unit 3,

To be a House or Senate page, you need to be a junior. There are two summer sessions (one in June and one in July), and you can either be a rising junior or rising senior to participate in one of those. There are also two semester programs (you go to school and work in D.C.) that you have to attend while in the fall or spring semester of your Junior Year. I don’t know a lot about semester pages because i was selected to serve as a Senate page in July this summer, but I know that there are 72 House pages and 30 Senate pages at one time. A senator or rep has to sponsor you, but I believe they will select pages from outside their own state if there is a low interest in their state (it really depends). I’m from Delaware, so we only have the two senators and one rep and my rep and one of the senators were just elected to office in the last midterm election and therefore didn’t have the seniority to sponsor a page. Luckily our senior senator Tom Carper was able to sponsor a page for the second summer session and I was selected. I believe that the reps want pages from their own state but it doesn’t hurt to try.

I believe that their looking for a leader, someone with a good GPA and ECs, someone interested in government/politics and someone who has a history of community service. In my phone interview, the woman asked about community service awards I have gotten and about my interest level in current affairs/politics.

Hope this helps! I’m super excited to be a page this summer!

I was a Spring 2011 Page. You will have the time of your life there :)
