Congressional/Senate Internships

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone could give me some insight into congressional internships and their competitiveness. I have applied to five internships (three with Congresswomen/men and two with Senators) for the state in which I reside and attend college. I share political affiliations with these individuals and have high grades, good letters of recommendation, and am pretty involved in college.

My question is does anyone have insight into how competitive (or not competitive) these internships actually are? I am applying for the fall (not summer) and am just getting worked up about not getting one. I am hoping to also go to D.C. and I heard they receive fewer applicants during the school year for that specific location. I just do not know if I am overreacting or if I should be super concerned about not receiving the opportunity. I also reside in a smaller midwest state. I guess I would like some insight from people who have perhaps been intern coordinators or know more about the process! Thank you in advance.

These internships are difficult to obtain. It would help to work your in-state connections to see if you can meet the Congressmembers beforehand. Maybe there are community events of volunteer opps where you could meet them. Give it all you have but also have a back-up plan.
