Congressman also receive appointment letters?

Does appointment letters go to the congressman as well? Or does it only go to the applicants?

The members of congress know which of their nominees have received appointments.

I don't think it goes to the congressmen.

I had a luncheon w/ mine right after I got my letter and he had no idea I had been offered an appointment. Plus he kept telling us all to keep in touch and give him any updates...

That might only be my congressman though...

I just called my congressman no more than 20 minutes ago. The person who handles the service academies stuff says they are updated around the 20th of each month. She said I have not received an appointment to the Air Force Academy.

So yes, generally your congressman will know but not sure how far in advance of you (or how much later).

My Congressman called to congradulate me on my appointment, so I'm pretty sure that the Congressional Liason Division of USAFA Selections lets your nominating source know whose appointed, just like they find out about letters of assurence, etc.

2 of my 3 congressmen didn't even tell me they nominated me.

My son was called out of class on Dec.16 during his last period to take a call from our Congressman's office. He was informed of his Appointment to the USAFA. He was notified the same way (at school) when his Appointment to the USMA came.
Of course he chose USAFA!

Sniper, uhg. Thats all I can say. Nothing more, nothing less. Still hopeful that it ain't over till it's over. I'm just gonna hang out & wait some more. I don't care. I'm still waiting.

Snipper,

I am so sorry. I can't even begin to know how you feel. My son looked like I had punched him in the stomach when I told him our congressman said he didn't get an appointment. There are still many more appointments yet to be given out as all these folks with multiple appointment make a decision. Maybe we should just try to convince them all to go Navy! Keep the faith, Snipper.

Also, our congressional staffer told us the AFA sends the staffers an email when they send the letters out. This gives the congressman a couple of days to notify you personally before you get the letter. Our congressman calls the kids at home to relay the news.

Correct on the e-mails. That's what my reps academy person said when she left me a message.
