I am having a lot of trouble deciding between these two schools for ED.
In terms of location, I think Conn wins for me because I live in NYC and it seems like the perfect distance. I have visited both schools, wish I was able to go back to Colby before deciding but we can’t.
I have heard that Colby is a bit above in terms of prestige. How true is that? Do people get good jobs and go to grad school after conn?
What is it like socially? I am a bit preppy and do party but also am focused academically. What are students like? I heard that parties often get shut down so social life is a bit boring at Conn. Is that true?
Which is the best academically? socially? good/easily accessible professors? better prospects for the future? language/study abroad programs?
What stands out about Conn College is their arts and dance program. Even if that is not your, major, if you have an interest in taking some arts related courses they are strong at Conn College. U.S. Coast Guard Academy is close by, so that adds to the social prospects especially because Conn College has more women.
Both are very strong academically. Colby probably slightly more well known, more outdoorsy types, more liberal but not extremely so. Both great choices
In terms of the academic preparedness of their students, these two colleges are interestingly close considering their superficially disparate USNWR rankings. (Statistics chosen to show figures in which Connecticut is equal or stronger.)
If you are willing to get out of your geographic bubble I think Colby has a lot to offer. Both are great schools, but I do think Conn Col has more of a regional representation, and there is a benefit to spending 4 years in a very different environment. If you are at all outdoorsy then Colby really is an excellent fit for what you are looking for. If, however, you are more city oriented and that is important to you then Conn col is obviously a better choice. Both schools will offer similar academics, I know Colby has excellent study abroad opportunities and I assume Conn Col does as well. I would look into your academic areas of interest and see if one is stronger than the other. If your decision is still a toss up you should consider applying RD as your preferences might change between now and April.
