We are comparing these two schools, and wonder if anyone can add insight into the housing and social life. From our viewpoint it seems that there is more happening up at Skidmore - in terms of visiting entertainment and cultural events on campus. How is the music scene in each? Housing is different at Conn, because of singles, everyone staying on campus, and few upperclassmen options. There are pros and cons to these features, but I’m wondering if anyone has helpful feedback. Thank you!
Saratoga is a wonderful place to be for sure. Connecticut College is part of the prestigious NESCAC conference with Williams, Amherst, Bowdoin, Bates, Hamilton, Tufts, Trinity, Wesleyan, Bowdoin and Middlebury.
Even for non-athletes, alumni have mutual respect for all the schools and that can serve you well in later life.
Connecticut College probably has a prestige edge, whether it’s deserved or not.
Both great choices.
A few things on Skidmore. Saratoga Springs is an appealing town for college students. Most students do live on what is a pretty lively campus (87%). The dorms are not “like palaces” as described in one publication. I found the doubles I saw to be designed so poorly (closet on one side, window on the other, beds in between) that they create little sense of personal space for either student. Offering one shower per suite – instead of, as I’ve seen elsewhere – two showers for two adjoining suites, is also a sign of materially poor spatial design.
Sorry I typed Bowdoin twice. Colby is the missing NESCAC member.
I think I read on CC that all freshmen at Skidmore this year have forced triples. I saw the same dorm layout you describe up at Skidmore and there was a third closet although only 2 beds in the room on tour. The closet was a clue about triples, but I hadn’t heard about it until the other day. We saw one room at Conn and I can’t remember it. Thank you for the posts.
We’ve been to both. You can’t compare New London to Saratoga, which is wonderful. We also thought the Skidmore campus was much nicer.
