I think a critical part of college admissions is to make a niche for yourself. This is really tired, but they DO read thousands upon thousands of apps. What makes you special? In your case, I'd really focus on your massive amounts of community service. That could make you stand out if you emphasize your passion for medicine.

I had an average (1900) SAT score but numerous international awards. My resume was absolutely astonishing and the guy who wrote my letter of recommendation donated half a building to USC some years ago. Did I get in? Nope..

Moral of the story is to try not to rely on connections.. unless you're very borderline.

On the USC application, there is a place to mark "legacy". You must have had a parent, grandparent, or sibling graduate from USC to mark this box. No other "connections" will help you any except in very rare circumstances (and I know one of those!)

Your grades are decent and it is good that you have taken honors classes, but you are going to have to pull out a lot of extras to get in. You really need over a 2000 (esp. since you have some C's) and as sjw1011 said, you should focus on all that community service in addition to your family history. You may be able to pull it off if you can make your application look good. Your essays will be VERY important. You should also take the hardest schedule possible your senior year and get very good grades 1st semester- that could make the difference.

my brother went to USC, but did not graduate with a degree from USC. he transferred after his freshman year. will this help me still?

also, i have a cousin who is currently attending, another cousin graduated almost 10 years ago, an uncle (a different cousin's husband) who got his DDS from SC, another uncle who graduated many years ago (hes almost 70 now) and my other uncle is chief of medicine at LAC+USC hospital. any of these help?

USC Application has a small section for USC family "connections" on form 1a-
23. Did any of your grandparents attend USC?
24. Did any of your parents attend USC?
25. Did any of your siblings attend USC?

There is no line item for any other "connections".

Yea, connections other than parents, grandparents, or siblings won't be considered on your app except in rare circumstances. Also, no need to type in all-caps.
