<p>No, that’s what I was referring to. A lot of people do that and it’s really unoriginal. Seriously, it is not clever as it sounds. It is actually really annoying and one of the hallmarks of bad writing.</p>

<p>Do you mean inserting a comment like, “I want to attend University X because…”?<br>
That would probably be fine. It would show customization. An essay devoid of content purely about University X suggests that it might be recycled.</p>
<p>Or do you mean some sort of story where a character is writing a college essay? That seems kind of corny and probably overplayed.</p>
