Consecutive rejection letters

Hi. I'm incredibly frustrated right now. I have applied to 10 universities and have been rejected from 8 of them so far. Didn't receive a single acceptance letter. Being rejected by reach schools or top choices is something I can understand and get over with, but I've been rejected from all my safety schools, such as OSU, GWU, and BU. I just don't understand what makes me so god damn unqualified. When I checked naviance for my school (I don't know if many of your schools have this), people who had far lower ACT scores and GPA got accepted to these safety schools and yet, I have been rejected by them all. I took the full IB diploma program, which really brought my grades down during Junior and Senior years, but I did a lot of extra curricular. My cumulative GPA is about 3.15 and my ACT score is 29. I figured I would be okay for my safety schools. I just got my rejection letter from BU and am extremely furious. just what the hell went wrong? I think my LORs from two of my teachers were fine, but my counselor is kind of lazy and I'm afraid that he could have written me a bad one. That's the only reason I can think of besides my low GPA. Any thoughts?

I don’t think you understand what a safety school is. Your stats make those schools matches at best. Your ACT was in the middle 50%ile and your GPA is near the bottom 25%ile. For one school recs are only considered. For another the same thing for ECs - only considered. Did you make it into any of your schools?

Your scores (especially your GPA) are already on the low side for most of these schools, and applying as an international makes it even harder to be admitted.

Yeah, you have a 3.15, and your grades show negative trend because it started during junior year. This is a fatal mistake, it shows colleges that you are simply not able to handle a college-level curriculum. Also, those are not safety schools. GWU has a 33% admissions rate. A 3.15 gpa to GWU is a REACH. You misjudged yourself. I hope you do make it into at least one of the two schools left but if not, gap year is an option.

It sounds like you got some bad advice which is a shame because a 3.15 29 ACT would be good enough to get you into a lot of schools.
The Common App website has a search tool that will identify schools that are still accepting applications, and you can do a google search for “rolling admissions”.

First of all, with a 3.15 GPA, BU and GWU should be reaches, NOT SAFETIES. second, there’s no need to lament over something that’s already done. Google “rolling admission colleges” and I’m sure you will find a long list of universities willing to accept you. You should also consider calling some of the universities you applied to in order to see why you didn’t get accepted. Might give you some peace of mind.

Good GPA + Sensible course load= accepted

bad GPA+ most rigorour course load= rejected

it is as simple as that.

Naviance shows historic data.
So if a schools selectivity has increased over that time period, it may be letting you know that your chance of being accepted if you applied 5 years ago

Your stat look low for bu.
