In 8th grade I took Spanish 1, receiving High School credit, and went on to complete Spanish 2 and 3 in my Freshman and Sophomore years. I am currently going into my Junior year of high school and want to take Spanish 4, however I could not fit it into my schedule for next school year’s classes. I was planning on taking it my Senior year, but I’ve heard that your foreign language courses must be taken consecutively. So here’s my question: will I be able to skip a year of Spanish, take it my Senior year, and still be able to say I have taken 4 years of Spanish? And if not, does anyone know of any online Spanish 4 courses in a relatively reasonable price range I could take this Summer in order to be consecutive?
I also have the same question regarding Spanish. I am going into my Junior year after taking Spanish 4 in my Sophomore year and would much rather take an AP Science course instead of Spanish 5 in my Junior year. Would it be fine if I took Spanish 5 in my Senior year or no.
It depends on the school you are applying to. My university, for example, said three years of a foreign language. I didn’t take Spanish during my junior year after taking two years of Spanish in fresh and soph year. So I took Spanish again in my senior year to meet that requirement.
If it says consecutively, then take it consecutively. Don’t try to beat the system by taking “online” classes. Universities don’t look too kindly on them and it’s better to take actual classes than those online.
You heard wrong. Well, you probably heard right, but that information is incorrect. There is nothing that requires foreign language courses to be taken consecutively, although it is certainly easier to continue to the next level without a year break in between.
Yes.
Yes. And for future reference, don’t hijack someone else’s thread
