bazcat, that's really stupid. The reason it's not called the "Third World" is because the term is useless. Firstly, there is no Second World, as there used to be when the classification was used (when the Soviets were around). Secondly, how does one define a Third World country? No one would really disagree with you that Africa contains many of them, but what about China? What about North/South Korea? Is Malaysia a third world country? On another more interesting note, what about the black and hispanic populations in America - are they Third World?

"Developing Country" is actually also a useless term. EVERY COUNTRY is developing. So what's the point of saying it? The most useful terms are "More Developed Country" and "Less Developed Country". Even "Developed" vs. "Undeveloped" country is problematic, because it often depends on what someone means by development - for example Cuba, a country widely derided in America, actually has one of the best widely available healthcare and education systems in the world. In terms of human development, Cuba is an excellent country. Yet its economy is stagnant in many ways. Developed or not? First or Third World?

Before you try to blame all kinds of things on Political Correctness, it would be really nice if you actually knew the reasons for changes like that in lexicon - because you're misguided about this one for sure, which makes me wonder about others.

By the way:

...sounds a lot like you refuse to say it, not that you just think it's stupid, Contradictory much?
