Conservatives > Liberals

I don't refuse, I just think its dumb that all of a sudden the term "third world" is evil and not PC. Developing country is just sugar coating the reality.

so all the GOP and administration words and phrases that disguise the truth behind them, those are all okay for you righties?

like no child left behind

oh, yeah, and its not a civil war in Iraq

surge

clear skies

family values

healthy forests

partial birth abortion

the list goes on and on

so, to think that the progressives are alone in the war of words, please

and ps- people of color isn't just about Black people, expand your vision

libertarians>>>>>>>>>>>>>>conservatives>=liberals

People should have free markets and freedom to do whatever they want

Libertarians>>>>>>>>>>>>>>EVERYONE.

But there is no such thing as "liberal." You pick from
a) A fascist party
b) A VERY fascist party, or
c) A third party that represents your beliefs but doesn't have much chance of winning because of our supremely flawed two-party system.

The Third World is no longer applicable in a post-Cold War era. That's why we use the term "developing country". Duh.

Just another parrot with nothing original to say. People like this are ruining this country.

Libertarians are a joke. They have blinders super-glued to their heads.

bazcat, that's really stupid. The reason it's not called the "Third World" is because the term is useless. Firstly, there is no Second World, as there used to be when the classification was used (when the Soviets were around). Secondly, how does one define a Third World country? No one would really disagree with you that Africa contains many of them, but what about China? What about North/South Korea? Is Malaysia a third world country? On another more interesting note, what about the black and hispanic populations in America - are they Third World?

"Developing Country" is actually also a useless term. EVERY COUNTRY is developing. So what's the point of saying it? The most useful terms are "More Developed Country" and "Less Developed Country". Even "Developed" vs. "Undeveloped" country is problematic, because it often depends on what someone means by development - for example Cuba, a country widely derided in America, actually has one of the best widely available healthcare and education systems in the world. In terms of human development, Cuba is an excellent country. Yet its economy is stagnant in many ways. Developed or not? First or Third World?

Before you try to blame all kinds of things on Political Correctness, it would be really nice if you actually knew the reasons for changes like that in lexicon - because you're misguided about this one for sure, which makes me wonder about others.

By the way:

...sounds a lot like you refuse to say it, not that you just think it's stupid, Contradictory much?

I'm not a "rightie" I'm a moderate and a registered Democrat.

I know what people of color means, thanks.

I'm not going to get into a "quote war." I'm not directly objecting against phrases like "people of color" and developing country," I'm merely objecting to the let's-all-pretend-that-the-world-is-a-big-happy-equal-fair-place-and-hold-hands-and-skip-and-accuse-random-countries-of-practicing-apartheid-yay attitude of most of the liberals that I know.
I am not by any stretch of the imagination a Conservative, and I disagree with most of their agenda. However, I also object to the mind set of my mainly liberal town. It's like, they're open to anyone and everyone, except those who disagree with them. They preach toleration, but can't tolerate opposing points of view. The three conservatives in my school are afraid to speak up in class because they know that they will be shouted down by everyone, including the teacher, and its gotten to the point where they know not to take AP Environmental because of the copious amount of Bush bashing done by the teacher. I support gay marriage, and abortion, and I'm against the War in Iraq, I think NCLB is ridiculous.

1of42, I'm not going to get into one of those "you're ignorant, no you're ignorant" fights, they're kind of dumb, especially on an internet forum.

"Secondly, how does one define a Third World country? No one would really disagree with you that Africa contains many of them, but what about China? What about North/South Korea?"

South Korea as anything close to a third world country is laughable, the tech there is years ahead of ours. North Korea would fit the definition though.

P.S. PCs>Macs baby!

This thread should be in forum 21, not forum 8.
