Brannen…you?

Also, what flute things are you looking to do this summer? I’ve been looking into some festivals.

Powell…just got it and I love it! I was looking at Brannen’s but they were a bit out of my price range
I was actually going to ask you the same question! I have found festivals that I have wanted to do , but the date for application turn in has passed! Have you found any with time left to apply?

ooh yeah festival deadlines were quite some time ago. I’m waiting on a few. But I’m sure you could find some masterclasses/workshops that are one week long. A laidback summer will be nice before college!

oh yeah …well what festivals did you apply for?

flooter-
spending a week at Colburn with Jim Walker and Elizabeth Rowe would be incredible. Congrats on your Michigan acceptance. One of d’s friends loved MPulse and also received her acceptance.

Just curious about what other summer programs flutes have attended! D has spent her summer at Carnegie, NYSMF, Interlochen. She appied to Brevard and BUTI this summer but is not sure if she wants to be gone all summer since she will be leaving for college in August. She loved Interlochen, but she would be one of the oldest since they only take hs students. But, she has not ruled Interlochen completely out. Who knows, I may luck out and have her decide to stay home, take lessons and attend master classes this summer!

D picked out her flute last year as an early graduation present. Also just got a piccolo that she actually enjoys playing!

The best of luck to you!! It is good to have some solid acceptances, isn’t it?

Does Jeanne Baxtresser teach at Carnegie Mellon’s summer precollege program?

notfromme, what is MPulse? Is your daughter’s friend a flutist as well?

MPulse is Michigan’s summer program. Yes, d’s friend does play the flute. Jean Baxtresser did not teach at the summer program, but d had a wonderful teacher, Jenny Connor.

Ilovetheflute,

I applied to Brevard, NSO, EMF, and then Aria.

Notfromme, what is your take on the Interlochen summer festival? I’ve heard mixed reviews from various instruments.

D says Interlochen was the best summer of her life. She would love to go back, but just does not want to be gone all summer. She does still have her acceptance packet on the counter, so she hasn’t definately decided on not going yet. We loved visiting her. The campus is in a beautiful place, rustic but very beautiful…and the music…amazing. I imagine it may be hard on some kids…without computers, cell phones ect. But d found they really did not have time for that stuff. She made great friends and loved her instructors. It was intense, with long hours of playing, but that is what she loves to do. The talent there is incredible, in all fields not just the music.
