Could working at a university lab (getting paid to make suspension medias, ect) as well as doing research and winning an intel STS semifinalist position be considered sort of a hook?

Specifically, I attended a college's summer program, met a lab director, got a job, will do research, and will submit to Intel (and hopefully become a semifinalist).

It's a nice EC, but I don't think it qualifies as a hook in the way that a being a recruited athlete, a legacy or an underrepresented minority does.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm just trying to do something that will really make this college want me. Is there anything I can do because I can't really change being an URM or legacy, unfortunately.

become the best at something...anything at all, just become the best! you will find that this is harder than you would expect. on the harvard board a champion ping pong player just got in.

....eating hotdogs. No skill at all! Just starve yourself for a few days and do like Kobayashi does :P
Just kidding. Do what you like the best and try your hardest to excel in it. That's all you can do.
