Many colleges say they don't require SAT II's, but they are "considered if submitted."

I'm looking for answers from people who have had experience with this. Can I take the college at its word? Or is it the same as an "optional essay" that really isn't optional if you want to be accepted?

People’s individual experiences wouldn’t involve the college telling them whether the lack of SAT Subject Tests were the reason they were rejected. From each college, you’d have to have data from a large group of people who applied.

Just check out the requirements for the schools you REALLY care about. Obviously, if one requires SAT IIs then it becomes a no-brainer. Then whether you submit them to other schools merely hinges on whether they help or hurt your candidacy.

If no school requires SAT IIs, pick up the phone, call them and ask 'how common is it for applications to include SAT II scores? Then you will have your answer. As an aside, it seems to me, many a kid would be better off directly contacting a school rather than basing something on a post (including mine) which may have incorrect or outdated info. The admissions dept. is not the enemy. Be polite, concise and express that you just want to do some planning and they will be happy to talk with you - particularly now that the crunch is over for them and before things pick back up in the Fall. Expressing an interest is a positive thing. You can also send an e-mail if you prefer.
