Considering a switch from CompEng to MIS

I've been in a computer engineering program for a year now and I'm starting to consider switching to MIS. I enjoy programming and I've taken several programmming classes already including OO programming and data structures. I have an associates in Web already and would be able to finish up an MIS degree in half the credits it would take to do CE.

I could finish MIS in a full year plus part time for two trimesters. During that time I could take some additional CS classes like algothrithms and operating systems. I think I'd have just as much programming as doing the CE degree plus I think the business classes are quite valuable in many programming positions.

Any opinions on this? That extra year of school could mean a lot of money and a year towards doing an MBA plus a year of experience on the job is probably more valuable than a year in school in my opinion.

I wouldn’t let anything like credits or money play any role in determining your future career, my friend. If you’re interested in management, go in that direction. Otherwise, stick with CE.

What is it you want to do career-wise?
