I’m finishing up my junior year as a pre-med neuroscience major, but I’ve been feeling like healthcare just isn’t for me. If I were to transition into engineering, would it make sense to graduate with my B.S. in neuroscience first and then get an M.S. in engineering or switch to engineering while I’m still an undergrad?
It depends on what type of engineering you’re interested and how solid your foundational skills and courses in calculus and physics are. Did you take the same calculus series engineers take? Was your physics series calculus based?
Check to see what classes you need for a BS in the field of engineering you’re interested in. You’ll need to take those classes either as part of a BS or after you graduate in Neuroscience before you can start your Masters. As eyemgh says, check your math and physics classes. Those are critical skills and knowledge for engineering.
Also, engineering can be a hard program to transfer into at some colleges. Check with the department you want to go into. Current GPA is typically a critical deciding factor.
If you are sure about wanting to switch to engineering, then the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll finish.
