Here is my situation. I am attending Community college with a overall gpa of 3.73 for a total of 36 credits my freshman year. Going to take summer classes this year.

My main concern is will medical schools care where I took the prerequisites from because I am taking them at a CC next year? I'm considering in majoring in biology

ANy suggestions on what I should do is greatly appreciated

Thnks.

As a Bio major, you will be taking plenty of upper division bio/science classes at the four-year Uni. Just make sure that you continue to earn mostly A’s and you should be fine.

And while it’s fine to take gen chem at your CC, save OChem for your 4 year college.

thnks for replies.

So should i do my physics, general chem, and calculus, biology courses at my CC? and save organic chemistry for UC when I transfer?

Also this might seem like a dumb question but what is considered upper division classes??

Upper division courses are any class above the introductory level. Gen chem is an introductory level class; Ochem is an upper level class.

You can do your calc, physics, gen chem and intro bio at your CC, then transfer and take OChem and any biology courses required for your degree.

IMO, saving organic for the four-year Uni is not necessary as long as one takes several upper division science classes at the Uni. For some majors, organic is a prereq to required courses. Thus, waiting until Junior year to take it means that one will be behind major completion which could result in a 5-year plan at a public Uni when courses might be harder to enroll into. (My D is not even a ‘science’ major per se, yet she has several courses that she wants to take that all have Organic as a prereq.)
