I am considering taking an intro to psych class online during the summer.
Has anyone taken an intro to psych class? What was it like?
My major is sociology but many of the psych, social psych, and sociology majors can take some of the same classes.
Hello there, blackbutler. I’m currently taking an online intro to psych course myself, and I can tell you it’s actually pretty fun. Not too much work in this particular class, but a fair deal of reading. Someone else I knew took the same class a few semesters ago and said that for them it was also very easy. Lots of interesting topics so far, and a bit of brain biology here and there.
Thank you for commenting. My dad also took an intro to psych class when he was in college and said it was interesting.
Are you taking it online or face-to-face? My college is offering many online classes of intro to psych but (I think) only one face-to-face but it ends at 8:30 at night
I’m taking it online; I’ve never been a fan of face-to-face classes
I took one this past summer. It’s really interesting. Class was fun. My professor was really engaging.
Intro classes are usually a good overview of lots of different areas of psychology. You don’t really get to delve into the specifics of any one field, but it’s a good way to see what interests you. There’s usually not a lot of focus on quantitative data or analysis, so if you haven’t taken a research methods class, you’ll still be okay. Keep in mind it’s an intro class, so you really don’t need to have any background. In fact, you might find that some of what you think about psych might not be entirely true.
Intro to psych is just that, an overview. You will usually get a chapter or so of the subtopics of psychology such as physiological psychology, sensation and perception, abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, etc. It is often a huge lecture course at larger schools. It is probably one of the better courses taken in an online format. You should be fine.
