Considering transfer to Wharton

Well hello! I am a freshman at NYU (Stern), and though I really love NYU and NYC, I have decided that for me Penn would be a significantly better fit for me academically and otherwise. And so I am considering transferring to Wharton at Penn as a sophomore. I’m not sure if anyone knows much about the transfer process, or the difficulty of admission as a transfer, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

So far, two-thirds done my first semester (sweet jesus it’s gone fast!), I have a 4.0 GPA, won some little awards, work 10 hours a week, played volleyball, will probably be founding a club (ohh it’s going to be good), and perhaps a rock band as well. I do hall council stuff, community service stuff, and some other such stuff that tickle my fancy… basically I like to keep busy.

I applied to Wharton last year, and I was waitlisted and then rejected. My high school stats were roughly

3.8GPA unweighted
1530 (800M, 730V), 750 Writing, 800 Math IIC, 760 language
Music, sports ECs… stuff like that.

So, I’d greatly appreciate it if anyone could comment on my chances of getting in, and also any advice for the transfer process. I’d also be happy to help anyone with any questions they may have, as I’ve been through the whole college app (or)deal just recently, and I did apply to Penn! Email me or post a comment. Thanks so much!

DAMN! You were rejected? What was your weighted GPA? How good were your essays and ****?

Damn...my SAT is lower than yours...my SAT2's are the same, cept i have 720 for us history as 3rd (so lower there)...and my gpa unweighted is about a 3.8 too...damn ittt!!

Consider that he's from NY- I bet the competition's stiff. I think you have a good chance. Just try nevertheless.

even if you're rejected, you're still at this amazing business school

I didn't have an unweighted GPA. I only took 1 AP, because that's all my school offered, and at the time I wouldn't have even thought of doing more. I think my essays were pretty good. Don't fret it though. I'm sure you still have a great shot.

Any more opinions or words of advice for the transfer process to Wharton?

hey nyu student, i'm a soph right now at stern and thinking about transferring to wharton too.

i got pretty good ec's and decent work exp, but stats are avg (1440 sat1)...how much do you think a solid gpa (hopefully i can get a 3.9) from stern will help?

whats wrong with Stern? It's an awesome school.

yea stern is a pretty good school, the people all work hard, but no one is exceptional. im just looking for a more challenging environment i guess...

hm.. should i bother applying to stern.. the thing that bothers me most about nyu is that there really isn't much of a traditional "campus"
how is everything, though

btw, i think the transfer acceptance rate is about the same as regular.. applying.. it's less than a quarter? it's still ridiculously difficult. good luck, man. wharton's my dream.

being in the city is great. i actually transferred from univ of colorado at boulder so ive experienced a traditional campus. i dont think theres anything special about having a campus. u should just apply anyway.
