Considering transferring from CC to NYU

What's up?

I'm a 21 year old community college student from Queens NY, who is currently filling out applications to colleges such as U Vermont and U New Hampshire. Frankly, I'm not the hardest worker and am generally more concerned with doing my own thing. Up until this point I really haven't given any thought to applying at NYU. Judging by the threads in this forum, it has become abundantly clear that kids are downright OBSESSED with being accepted to their business and performing arts programs. However, I have been informed by a few of their current students that their college GPA was shockingly lower than I expected when they transferred in. I've received ranges from a 3.1 to a 3.9, all of whom were accepted into the arts and sciences program. I've also been advised by one of my film professors who was a former NYU student and professor, stating that "getting into a program like sociology or english is a totally different story than getting into Tisch." When inquiring about this, I was told by a few current NYU students that transferring into the school of arts and sciences is considerably easier than the other schools. If this is the case, I thought I would spend the excessive amount of time meeting the massive application requirements hah.

GPA - 3.5 (will be able to bump that up to about a 3.75 by January.)
Activities - Creative Writing Club, Gay - Straight - Lesbian Alliance, Chess Club, Photography Club, Member of the Sigma Kappa Sigma Service Organization.
High School Activities - Student Government, Newspaper (editor of arts section), 2x Chess Club Champion, voted "wittiest" and "best personality" by peers in the yearbook.
I have good recommendations (as does every other student who has ever applied to college)
I have a written Essay already, which is both brutally honest about myself and what I'm most interested in learning. My English professor called it "profound" which is out of character for him.
My father is also an NYU graduate.

I'm interested in majoring in Sociology.

So does anyone know if the school of Arts and Sciences is a less competitive program for transfers than their others? And if so, how do my chances look to be accepted as a sociology major?

Thanks for your time!
Roger

Well numbers wise, CAS is the second hardest school to get into at NYU, behind Stern. I don’t know about transferring though. It might be easier since it’s not as specialized as Tisch or Stern is, but I’m not sure.

Btw your professor wasn’t saying Tisch is necessarily harder to get into. It’s just different.
