Unfortunately, I was denied admission to UCI when I applied for the Fall 2013 term. I was, however, accepted to Cal Poly Pomona and decided to go there.

Going to UCI still remains an ambition of mine, and I'm considering transferring there for Fall 2015 (at which point I should have junior level status).

I've used the assist.org website but it didn't really help me out... Where should I start in regards to preparing for transfer? I understand it is much harder for 4-year students to transfer to a UC campus, but it's still doable.

I should also note that I'm a Computer Science major and plan on staying as that major at UCI.

First of all, Computer Science is heavily impacted at UCI, so you need top notch grades to be competitive. Second, you’re from a CSU, so you are given lower priority than CC students. Third, what’s wrong with Pomona? It has a great engineering/computer science program. Anyway, you would probably need a few semesters of Calculus and a few courses in either Java, C++, python, etc. This is just a few major prerequisites for CS and probably a lot more you would need to complete.

If UCI is your dream school, I’d say go to CC and apply as a junior. Like every other person here, it’s the best option along with TAG and priority towards UCI, not to mention a lot cheaper and your chance of admission greatly rises as opposed to applying from CPP. Hope this helps and good luck!

Doesn’t CPP have an amazing Computer Science department? Or perhaps I’ve heard wrong. Anyway, you’ll be at a definite disadvantage coming from a non-CCC, non-UC school. I don’t recall Computer Science being impacted…at least it wasn’t during my time at UCI. Things change though and it’s probably way harder to get into UCI these days…but as long as you have a solid GPA, you should be fine. A good place to start would be to contact UCI directly.

I know that UCI is a much more regarded school than CPP, at least, based of off what i have discovered by searching around online. The general consensus seems to be that UC > CSU in almost every regard. Also, I’m definitely not dropping out of CPP to go to a CC and TAG my way to UCI. I do know there are benefits but i don’t want to be stuck at a CC.

@oceanpartier My goal is to have at least a 3.7+ by the time I’m supposed to transfer. I will search around for their transfer office if they have one.

Thank you both for your replies!

I’m using the assist.org website to check which of my classes can transfer. The website wont let me pick the option to transfer from CPP to UCI, only from UCI to CPP. Anyone know why?

Also, what does it mean when a class says “Non Articulated” on the assist.org website? Does this mean it can’t transfer?

And lastly, when should I apply as a transfer? Do i apply for transfer admission the spring quarter of my second year?

I would appreciate any and all responses. Thanks! :)
