Considering transferring

I just graduated from highschool and I only applied to 3 colleges. NYU Stern being one of them, I was denied.

I am now going to be attending University of Oregon, but I still really want to go to Stern.

In highschool I got a 3.3 GPA unweighted, a 2130 sat (740m 710r 680w) and on SATII's I got a 720 Math IIc and a 640 Chemistry

My highschool gpa is low because of my freshman and sophomore years, but my last two years I did very well with a difficult courseload and did well on AP exams.
Calc AB=5
Stat=5
Chemistry=4
Physics C 4's on both mechanics and E&M
AP Euro=3

I was a National Merit Commended scholar and an Eagle scout.

I would like to retake the SAT I think I can do better, my score is from end of junior year. And I have a feeling that I will do very well in my first year at oregon with classes that are challenging. And I will be able to take all of the classes that Stern reccomends for transfers.

What kind of GPA would I need to transfer as a Sophomore into Stern, what do you think my chances are and what else could I do to help my chances.

Shameless bump, I need some information please

jimstandard:

Everything I know suggests that transferring into Stern is very difficult. You'll probably need stellar everything - grades, test scores, recommendations.

That being said, it's not impossible. Best of luck to you. :D

Just get good grades...meaning 3.7+ Do your best academically and there is no reason why you won't be accepted to Stern later on.

I agree...3.7 at a state university like Oregon is what you should aim for. Always do better if possible and take difficult classes - no crap. Be sure to complete the prerequisite courses for Stern as well and I'd suggest doing so in the fall before the year for which you want to transfer. If you complete the classes in the Spring, they may not see the grades in time and it's always better to say "I got an A in this required class" than "I plan on taking this required class."

I am going to take as many of the required classes as possible first quarter, but I know for fact that there will be a few conflicts so I will have to take them 2nd quarter

yeah it's pretty hard to cram them all in sometimes by the end of that fall semester, but just try and get as many as possible outta the way. I know plenty of people that have gotten in to b-schools w/out doing all of the required courses, but if you're a borderline applicant or something it will really show your interest and desire to attend the school.

Also keep in mind that once you transfer into Stern, you lose that GPA...all students come in with a 0 GPA, meaning none of your grades will count. If you've got your sights set on Stern, by all means go for it, but it will be tough.

Yeah I expected that they would not let grades from an inferior institution count towards your stern gpa

i don't think transferring to stern is as hard as people make it olut to be i know a lot of less than stellar students that have transferred in (mostly from CAS though) i am n ot sure though if it would be harder from another college..
