Considering UCLA or UCSD transfer...

Hi,

I recently registered for classes for the fall quarter at UCR. I am plan to major in Business Economics and want to transfer out and do an intercampus transfer to LA or SD. I realize SD has no biz econ major so I am willing to change it back to Economics if need be but is this a big deal? Also, what kind of stats do I need to have a shot at transferring and what steps do I need to take once the time is right. I know I have to write some sort of essay and I wanted to clarify that I have to finish breadth requirements as as well asl lower division major requirements before I consider transferring. I was considering setting up an appt with my academic advisor about this situation but have heard that they are generally nonresponsive when it comes to this issue as if they discourage u from doing it and saying its impossible but juding from people's success on CC its entirely plausable. Can someone please help me out sorting these things out....I know its a lot but I really need peace of mind even though I won't be in school for another couple of months. Thank you :D....oh yeah and i need at least 90 credits to transfer??? and do i lose some breadth requirement credit or any lower divison credit along the way? Thank u all so much ;)

for ucsd a 3.3 and above is fine.. for UCLA you better get a 3.7+ to have a shot.

thanks for replying hobofromdowntown :D.....i see u went a similar route but may I ask what you majored in at UCR exactly? The only similar major between UCR and SD for this dept is just Economics right?

oh and what time period can i wxactly apply to LA? I know I have to be in junior standing with at least 90 quarter credits and I will most likely achieve that by the end of the fall quarter of the beginning of my second year....do they allow transfer students in winter quarters or is that for only certain impacted majors?

You'll have a much better chance if you go to a ccc rather than UcR. You can then sign a transfer agreement.

Well im already registered for classes at UCR so then I went to UCLA's website am I correct in assuming they dont offer transfer students admissions in any other quarter except the fall? I ask this because I will have all by breadth and lower division courses done by fall quarter 07 and I DONT want to spend another few quarters wasting time at Riv......if possible would LA except me if i finished everything except like 4 breadth classes that I could just do over there??? GAR should have taken more ap exams....

I have a friend who transferred from UCR to UCSD w/ a 3.7ish GPA, economics major. Don't trust the advisors, b/c they basically don't know what they're talking about since I bet few people percentage-wise transfer from school to school, so they're not really prepared to answer any questions -and sometimes (as in my case) they give completely wrong info. You should check online on the sites of UCSD and UCLA to get accurate info.

Actually, nearly everyone I know who applied to UCLA got in, even with 3.3ish GPAs, and a lot of them didnt even get into SD.
