I’ve found the area to be quite great. Obviously you know tons of research dollars flow into UF annually, but there are a lot of nice things to do in the area.

Weather is great. Had a high temp of 72 today, can’t beat it.

Seafood? Haha I don’t know how to compare. Probably cheaper than inland states.

The school is fantastic. Top notch, and I know the Physics department is highly ranked and has nice facilities.

Gainesville has been promoting urban development the past ten years or so, so anything from campus to the east past downtown is walk-able with many stores, restaurants, bars, and things to do. This is being accelerated with the “Innovation Square” project going on.

Biking is huge here, and Gainesville has been ranked the 37th most bike friendly city in the US according to Bicycling.org: [America?s Top 50 Bike-Friendly Cities | Bicycling Magazine](America’s Top 50 Bike-Friendly Cities)

My favorite bike trail: [Welcome to Florida State Parks](http://www.floridastateparks.org/gainesville-hawthorne/)

Crime can be a problem in some areas, though not generally near campus or by where students go. Just be smart and you’ll be fine.

Parking can be a pain on campus, but downtown actually does have a lot of parking if you ever head out that way. RTS buses are free for students and have over 10 million rides per year. Very extensive routes.

I see all sorts of churches all over the place for all different types of religions. Some very interesting ones I had never heard of.

Plenty of good ethnic restaurants, better quality than I would expect for a city this size.
