Considering UVM

I am strongly considering UVM. Any thoughts on academic reputation, social life, Burlington, etc? I am probably going to major in Environmental Science so if you know anything about their program please let me know. Thanks

I live in New England and have been up there numerous times.
Burlington is a cute college town. There are quite a few colleges up there besides UVM so there is a lot to do. Lots of bars, close to Lake Champian and skiing. Cant tell you much more than that.

It's pretty green/hippie-ish. Lots of pot smokers and hemp wearers but everyone I know that goes there absolutely LOVES it. Supposedly the parties are outrageous. Burlington is a cute little town.

The environmental science program at UVM is considered to be one of their strongest. I live about 20 miles south of Burlington and it's an ideal college town. Not too big, beautiful setting, good places to eat, and a slightly cosmopolitan feel in spite of it's small size. My daughter's a high school senior and isn't applying anywhere within VT so we've been looking at schools all over the place and I've yet to see as nice a college town as Burlington. Every year a number of students from her high school end up at UVM, often checking out other schools first, and for the most part they're very happy there. The addition of the Honors College a few years ago has raised the bar, as has the in-state "Green and Gold" scholarship for the top-ranked student of every VT high school (free tuition scholarship all four years). The relatively new Davis Student Center is absolutely gorgeous, and a state-of-the-art green building, using local hardwoods. UVM is definitely worth a look!

Burlington is a great college town. I have several acquaintances at UVM that looove it there.

As a Vermonter, I second everyone else. Burlington is a great town with the aforementioned 'slightly cosmopolitan' feel, E.S. is quite strong at UVM, and the overal quality of life is very high. I think UVM is also in the process of climbing in terms of prestige/selectivity, for better or worse -- I know a kid with a 2360 SATS deferred from my school, and it's getting harder and harder to get an outright acceptance.

I visited and loved Burlington and the school. I was just wondering about the social scene…
What is it like? Also, what is the size like? I’m looking at mostly LAC’s and this is a little bigger than what I’m looking for…
Btw, Burlington= the best shopping ever!
