consistent EC's

ummm

so what if i do consistent EC's, but i'm not devoted to them? do u think that it will show through in my college application?

because i do drama, but i'm not a big player in it.

i did drama freshman year... and i did only one production, and in that one, i was an extra.

i did it sophomore year, and i got a medium sized role, but i only did it for one year.

i did it junior year and i got two medium sized roles

i did it senior year but i only got an extra for one play.

do i still seem "passionate" and "devoted" about drama since i did it for all four years?

that shows consistency, right? i mean, i stiffed all the extra stuff. i showed up to rehearsals only when necessary, but i never helped after school with setting up the stage, or helping to build the set. and i skipped the drama fundraisers and stuff. but colleges don't see that! they only see that i participated all four years, right?

i mean, the rest of my ec's are like this.... i never do much in them, but i'm CONSISTENT, so that it will look good when i apply, right? i never have to mention that i don't do anything extra for the EC's, right?

sorry about this thread:
i just was told off the other day by one of my friends-- about how i never helped out with the play, and how i didn't care if we won the competitions or not. but i told him that it didn't matter because colleges don't even see past the consistency of it. and he just flipped me off, ... did he flip me off because i was being an obnoxious college-seeker, or because i was right and he didn't want to admit it?

As a drama devotee, I would have also flipped you off. =)

The mere fact that you justify your inactivity by saying that "colleges don't see" the level of devotion makes me not like you even more.

But that's just me and my love for my ECs.

(Granted, I'm not going to hate you for all eternity or hold a grudge or anything like that, but there is no soft spot in my heart that is feeling pity for you right now)

^ but doesn't it still look good?

i mean, writing "DRAMA CLUB" and checking off boxes 9, 10, 11, 12 would make me look really devoted, right?

like, it doesn't actually matter, right? as long as you have done it all four years?

no, it won't really matter.

as long as you have something to write about in the "what is your biggest interest" or "what activity do you enjoy the most" section of the college app, you're well off.

if you don't have anything else, you could probably even pull off drama. just BS your way through.

doing minimum work for the maximum result = awesome
go you!

Yeah, but i think when people talk about consistent ec's that you are passionate about they usually are talkinga bout more than one activity involving a certain area. For example, if you like music, just four years of band will not show passion or "consistency" they are looking for you to pursue that further by being in outside orchestras, or creating your own band, winning competitions.

I hope that answered your question, I might have just misunderstood what you were asking though.

And Artbulla, I think that was unnecessary and not that anyone cares what you think on an online forum, but still, not needed.

It may have been unnecessary, but this post sparked an emotion in me that's been building up over my high school years. I just can't stand people who do stuff only for college. Do it for yourself and if you're being sincere it'll show through.

Besides, I answered the OP's question. I believe that the OP's friend flipped the OP off because the OP was being an "obnoxious college-seeker." In the words of the very OP. The entire tone of the original post was asking for a snarky remark.

Not that your "no one cares what you think" comment was necessary either, anyway. ;)

EDIT: But like I said, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. Do what you like and see how you do. Good luck. =P
