my warmest congratulations to all new Caltechers! I am not so great as you guys so I have to wait for another 4years to apply to Caltech :frowning:
an anxious UChicago EA-er

[]SAT: 800 (M), 750 (CR), 730 (W) [2280 total]

[/ul]Subjective[ul]
[]Essays: Worked really hard on my Common App essay, Caltech supp. essays were pretty good
[]Teacher Recs: My teachers like me
[]Counselor Rec: I’m not sure – I go to a huge school, so counselors don’t really know us too well
[]Supplementary Material: Research papers (published), science fair poster, abstracts, Research mentor rec
[]Hook(recruited athlete, legacy, Nobel Prize): Yes, Nobel Prize. Seriously, nothing.
[/ul]Personal[ul]
[]Location: Densely populated state on the east coast
[]High School Type: large public HS
[]Ethnicity: Asian
[]Gender: Female
[/ul]Other[ul]
[]Extracurriculars: Normal nerdy things. But I also spend a lot of my time dancing (see username)
[]Awards: A bunch of local, state and national awards. Nothing international.
[*]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] No, I’m not going to brag. But yeah, I’m still in shock that I got into Caltech. And with my horrible GPA (and obviously being Asian doesn’t help), I was definitely expecting a rejection letter on Saturday. But I guess my love for science and engineering was shown in a good light in my application (along with my teacher and mentor recs), so I’m happy. Best of luck for those of you who were deferred and denied, and I can’t wait to see the accepted applicants at Prefrosh weekend!

[ *]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I’m surprised at the people who were rejected o_o. I got this news a couple days after learning a good friend of mine got in via Questbridge and I thought of how cool it’d be if we both got in, but I guess that didn’t happen (yet?!). Just wondering what I can submit aditionally as the semester is over and I can’t ask for any additional recs b/c all of my teachers are on vacation!

Advice: Im happy since it was my first choice. I turned around my life at the start of
high school, got more focused. Went from a ‘C’–barely passing student, to the top.
So, it can be done if you set your goals high. Looking forward to being a freshman
at Cal Tech!!

My friend told me she was accepted today! we screamed over the phone! it was great…

Congratulations to everyone who got accepted! Hopefully you guys will be here next year on prefrosh weekend-- we got A LOT for you!

me, teacher recc wasnt that good either

I’ll probably end up at Oregon State anyways. Reading about CalTech and its core
probably wasnt the right school for me, I would have ended up doing bad especially with all you smart intelligent ones out there that got accepted.

Congratulations to those that got in though!!!
